Artworks and Images

Studio Route 29 and Creative Growth are partnering to bring together new work by artists working in their respective supported studios. The occasion of the fair coincides with the forthcoming release of the album ‘Peace Makers in the Summer Time’ by painter William Scott (of Creative Growth) and multi-disciplinary artist BJ Armour (Studio Route 29). In their visual and musical work both artists make use of the speculative to reflect on their lived experience: resurrection, UFOs, time travel, and dream worlds are brought to bear on structural and personal levels to solve problems and soothe pain. Paintings and drawings by both artists will be on view, as well as works by Creative Growth artist Nicole Storm, and Studio Route 29 artists Theo Baransky and Michael Angelo Mangino.

With brushwork overflowing with casual confidence, Baransky presents small, glowing, and concise works which emerge from ongoing research into film distribution and production company logos: a visual catalog of their mergers, triumphs, pseudonyms, DBAs, and bankruptcies, implying as well the ebbing and flowing cultural influence of those companies on scales global to cult.

With a formalism of his own devising and developing, Michael Angelo Mangino’s painting brings us to sensation, to proximity, to a possibility of and question about autonomy and capacity in Painting. Largely non-speaking, Mangino’s work emerges independently from the history of painterly abstraction; it is a vital new contribution to that historical conversation.

BJ Armour’s multifaceted multimedia practice makes use of the speculative to reflect on his lived experience: the living voices of family and heroes passed, time travel, and complex dream worlds are brought into collaboration, soothing pain by supplying affirmation and aiding the artist to stay in the present, in dance, joy, and humor.
