'Vanishing Point Forever' Michael Angelo Mangino
Artworks and Images
This Land was Bred for Trouble Two Weeks Before my Arrival; Ashamed May You Do Elders Faces and Bones; Vanishing Point Forever. These mysterious and evocative phrases land upon Mangino’s signature gestural grounds in his most recent body of text paintings. Fragmented sentences harvested from a wide selection of written material gathered in the studio come
together into richly suggestive and inviting Dada-like poetry.
Layered with confident immediacy over his abstract color field paintings, these contemporary koan-like works refuse to be grasped logically. The consummate mix of remarkable, colorful abstract compositions and suggestive yet insoluble text opens surprising connections whose rhetorical direction can’t be pinned down or determined in any linear way. Like eavesdropping on a conversation, the meaning seems just out of reach, inviting new strategies of comprehension and reverie.
