Vision Texturer presents work by three artists who paint on Friday. A survey of their recent work on canvas, the show is held loosely together by a shared inquisitive and intuitive approach to painting-making.

Daisy Rodriguez’s paintings outline a floral world of pleasures in swift and decisive marks. Their dissolving or emerging forms suggest the unreal, the wished for, or the remembered - and occasionally, something half glimpsed in low light or in passing. Her paintings move in and out of coalescence from work to work with a sense of zooming from the micro to the macro. Through all there is a sense of invitation, of spaces and beings which beckon us in.

In a style she refers to as “antique,” Tettemer offers a careful and loving interpretation of her references, from the art historical to moments and figures from her personal life. In much of her work Tettemer pulls the space of her painting up towards us with frontal perspectives that picture a world where objects are oriented towards the beholder. Her recent paintings after stained glass extend this play between surface and space.

Matthew Jacobs works from multiple art books at once, which he keeps propped beside him as he paints. New paintings are grown by joining two or three references together, taking colors and forms freely from Modernist Abstraction, Conceptual Painting, Australian Aboriginal Abstraction, and German Abstraction. Period, technique, and approach are all collapsed into a new work that retains only gestural connection to the source. The new pictures present symbol-like forms or psychological landscapes, constructed in connection to a set of rules implied but mysterious. Like the paintings themselves, their titles are portmanteaus of their reference images- Data Lummer, Pigiturn, and Vision Texturer.
